Brief Description

The Department of Linguistics at Queen Mary, University of London (School of Languages, Linguistics and Film) has one AHRC Doctoral Studentship to award to a student embarking on a PhD in the department starting in September 2011. The award comprises three years` full-time fees and maintenance.

Interested applicants should submit their applications for doctoral study to QMUL by 31 January 2011. Applications received after this deadline will still be considered for acceptance to the programme but will be ineligible for AHRC funding.

Brief Description

Scholarships are granted for one year with the possibility of two extensions of one year each. The scholarships include a monthly stipend of approximately € 1,100. PhD candidates seeking an excellent research environment will find ideal working conditions and maximum support at the GCSC and will have access to all the advantages offered by the GCSC to its members. The current round of scholarships was announced in late 2010 and will start in October 2011.

Eligibility

The GCSC particularly welcomes applications for PhD scholarships from students who:

  • graduated with excellent marks from their home universities in one of the GCSC`s academic subjects or in cultural studies.
    Please note: If your main subject does not appear on the list of affliated departments (for example, if you have a degree in Cultural Studies), you may still be eligible for membership of the GCSC, provided your research project fits into one of the GCSC`s research areas.
  • are proposing a research project that fits into one (or several) of the GCSC`s research areas
  • are fluent in English or German.

Brief Description

During the academic year, selected fellows study at their universities and carry out research under the supervision of an academic mentor and in consultation with ETS research scientists and psychometricians. During the summer, fellows are invited to participate in the Summer Internship Program for Graduate Students, working under the guidance of an ETS mentor.

Program Goals

The goal of this program is to increase the number of well-trained scientists in educational measurement, psychometrics and statistics.

Award Duration

Appointments are for one year.
